New Delhi: Two more seasons with Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League KL Rahul Has already taken the franchise to the playoffs twice.
But before joining LSG, Rahul had captained Punjab Kings for a few seasons but could not take them to the knock-outs.
The right-handed batsman, who has also captained India, recently shed light on his struggles as a leader and revealed that he had made some mistakes in his early days as captain.
Rahul attributed his current success as a leader to trusting his intuition, which he said he had not done enough of in his early days as a leader.
Rahul feels he has struck the right balance between building up his courage and listening to the advice of the team management.
He told his teammate, “Building a team is about the players you pick, the key positions you can't afford to miss in the auction. In the first few years of captaincy, I'm not ashamed to admit that , I made some mistakes too.” YouTube channel of Indian teammate R Ashwin.
Rahul is currently working with head coach Justin Langer and has worked closely with Anil Kumble and Andy Flower in the past.
“When you take up captaincy there is a lot of information coming in. Which one to take and which one not to take and it has to be seen that you have an internal feeling which is contrary to what the coach is saying.
“In the beginning, it was hard to go against it because culturally we are taught to respect elders. Somehow things didn't go as planned and I wasn't able to sleep. I realized that you not only have to build trust and bonds but also “The need is with the players, but also with the coaches, we both want the same thing.”
Asked to talk about the leadership style of the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma and preceding Virat Kohli“Rohit has brought a sense of calmness to the dressing room. The passion remains the same. “Virat had already set the benchmark on how to be on the field and Rohit calmed down a bit and moved forward,” Rahul said.
