Former Indian cricket team all-rounder Yuvraj Singh believes that Mumbai Indians should have given Rohit Sharma one more year as captain while making Hardik Pandya the vice-captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Pandya was handed the captaincy after completing a sensational trade move from Gujarat Titans. In a recent interaction on Star Sports, Yuvraj said that Rohit is a five-time IPL winner as a captain and although he understands the decision to bring in someone like Hardik, MI should have given the veteran batsman one more season .

“Rohit Sharma is a 5-time IPL winner as a captain. Removing him is a big decision. Yuvraj Singh said, “I would have included someone, like they brought in Hardik (Pandya), but I would still give Rohit one more season and make Hardik the vice-captain and see how the whole franchise works.”

He said, “I understand from the franchise's point of view that they have to look at the future of the franchise. But still, Rohit is captaining India and is still playing well, so it is a big decision.”

Mumbai Indians along with Chennai Super Kings are the most successful franchises in the history of the tournament as both the sides have won five titles. Hardik won the trophy in his first season for GT but Yuvraj explained that captaining MI will be very different from captaining GT because of the added expectations.

Yuvraj said, “In terms of talent, yes, he has great talent. Being the captain of Gujarat will be different from being the captain of Mumbai. The expectations are high. Mumbai Indians has been a big team.”
