UGC notifies universities: AICTE approval not needed to offer technical programs in online or ODL modes |

The University Grants Commission (UGC) announced in a public notice that central, state and private universities Now there will be no need for prior approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with their application ugc To offer undergraduate, postgraduate and PG diploma programs in open distance learning or online mode,
“In view of the above, it is informed that Central, State and private universities offering undergraduate, postgraduate and post graduate diploma programs are required to obtain prior approval/recommendation/ from AICTE along with their application to the UGC,” the official notice said. NOC will not be required. in the subjects of Management, Computer Applications and Travel and Tourism odl and/or online mode.”
The UGC took the decision in its 578th meeting after deliberating on a letter from AICTE. The letter pertains to granting approval or recommendations to State and private universities offering professional programs in technical and management education through Open and Distance Learning (ODL/OL) mode.
However, despite the revised guidelines, institutions with 'Deemed-to-be-University' status will require AICTE approval or No Objection Certificate (NOC) to offer such programs in ODL and/or online mode. The commission said central, state and private universities can start courses listed in Section 2 of the UGC (ODL Programs and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 only after obtaining approval, recommendation or no objection certificate from AICTE.
